Ten Thousand Leaves Porridge @ The Garden of Kasuga Taisha Shrine

Mom was awfully tired after our trek to Kasuga Taisha Shrine. I would wanted to get to Todaiji but we needed to rest. So now, we walked down the path back to Todaiji temple and for some reason, it didn't feel that long at all! Very strange. We stopped by this nice little spot for lunch on our way out from the shrine.

This porridge is surprisingly tasty and refreshing. The green bits you see there are pieces of a lime zest (or a local citrus). The little balls floating in the porridge is actually taro balls. The pickles here were really delicious too. Not the cheap kind from the supermarket. The 2 pieces of sushi are wrapped in persimmon leaf, a specialty of Nara. The piece of tamago there was really awesome! It's the best I've had on this entire trip! The inside was really creamy but it held itself together well.

Reading that this sushi wrapped in persimmon leaf has a very subtle taste. It doesn't taste anything like persimmons at all! But slightly grassy. Don't worry, the grassy taste does not impact the fish or the rice. It's still a normal tasting sushi.

After our nourishing meal, we headed out back and look at this view! It's going to be stunning during autumn!
