Rainy Day Brunch @ Touchwood, Bridge Road, Richmond

Melbourne's weather is being a pain today. It was sunny when we went out then it started drizzling after we had brunch. We wanted to go to Top Paddock today but the trams are running on Sunday schedule so we we didn't risk it. It's just fortunate that Touchwood is open during the Easter holidays. The first time I went there, it was quite a sunny afternoon and the lunch crowd was already dwindling. The avocado on toast was nice with the caramelized lime.

Today, Sis and I had a really nice brunch here. The staff was nice and friendly. The only problem is - it seems like there's a time limit and they were sort of rushing us out through clearing our plates and asking if we're still going with a few morsels of food on our plates. But food-wise, I thought it was quite inventive and a step above the usual brunch menu.

Touchwood on UrbanspoonSis had the Blueberry and Banana Wholemeal Waffles with vanilla marscapone and maple syrup ($16). It was quite sweet and tart. I liked the marscaponie cream on this and the waffle was gooey and not overcooked.

I had the healthier option...

Morning grain salad - quinoa, freekah, wild rice, rocket, toasted almonds, chai soaked raisins, cumin yoghurt, poached egg  ($16) - I really loved this dish, It was light and fresh. It didn't lack taste and crunch either. If you're looking for a healthy breakfast option, this is your best bet. The salad was well dressed and punchy plus the yogurt was strategically placed as a layer above the salad. You'll have to scrape the yogurt using a forkful of the salad before you make its way to your mouth. Lovely!
