Missing Big Breaky @ Muletta's Cafe, Queen Victoria Market

We always pass by this cafe every Saturday that we went home from the market. Every time we pass by, this place is packed with people of all shapes, sizes, age and color. We decided to try it one Saturday before making our usual market trip.

Muletta is technically a bar that caters to the regular drinkers and party-goers at night but in the daylight, it transforms itself into a family-friendly wholesome diner. The interiors are very American-style diner feel, with the red leather and metal chairs, with a huge projector tube and techno sounds playing on the background. You can see people queueing up at the counter to order their breakies and those who are enjoying them with their families or mates. Service is curt and fast, no sweet talking here.

All of us ordered Muletta's big breakfast. We all had cappuccinos. Coffee is decent and sweet. For me, it's not a strong coffee or not as strong as I liked it to be. Maybe the milk and froth watered down the espresso.

I guess the idea of big breakfasts is appealing to us know. Back in Manila, big breakfasts are only served at McDonald's, with scrambled eggs, 2 pieces of english style muffins and a flat "sausage". Here, it's a whole different ball game. 2 pieces of toast, 2 fried eggs, 2 sausages, 3 strips of bacon, 2 roasted tomatoes and some sliced mushrooms. Wow. Now, that's a BIG breakfast. Needless to say, everything is served fast and cooked well. There really is nothing particularly gourmet about it. It's just plain, simple, stomach-filling food in the early morning. Sometimes, all you need is just down-to-earth family-style food, Muletta's fits the bill just right.
