A Lunch Break in CBD @ Chin Chin, Flinders Lane, Melbourne

The day before Mom left, we went to see Star Wars at the Kino. Technically, you don't really need a reason to see a movie but in this case there were a few - Mom doesn't really have the time to see a movie because of her busy schedule so having a vacation means that she should, it was a Monday so the tickets at the Kino are only AUD 8.50 and just because its Star Wars and we have to go see it.

Actually the movie turned out to be quite good, Mom said she wasn't bored one bit because of all the action, which also meant that the plot was not too complicated. Perhaps it will be worth to see the next movie, but we'll see.

The movie finished around 3pm, so it was time for a late lunch. I was planning to take her to Fonda Mexican, but seeing that she prefers more of Asian food, I decided to take her to Chin Chin. I haven't been there in a long long while - maybe more than a year now. Walking in, the vibe was still the same, very fast paced - it's almost like a posh fast food place. I'm just glad we didn't have to wait that long for a table considering the time. We sat at the bar.

The drinks were  very good and I remembered particularly enjoying their creative cocktails many moons ago. This time around, I had their really girly Passionfruit cocktail (AUD 18-19) with jasmine tea infused vodka.

The food though, was still consistently tasty and good. Sure, not all the dishes were top notch or spectacular but there was one that stood out.

We had the pork wraps (AUD 13-15) with a fresh salad and something like a hoisin sauce. This one was average and the concept was similar to a peking duck wrapped in a pancake. I do like the freshness of the veggies with the warm pulled pork.

Green Papaya Salad was also average (AUD 11-13). The other more authentic Thai places will make this one way better and fresher. Notice that the papaya slices were a bit oxidized.

So the king of the lunch hour was this delicious baby here. The Salt and Pepper Kingfish Wings (AUD 22-25). My mom actually chose this dish. It's very rare for me to choose fish as the main dish to share but this one was simply delicious. The crust was covered just right and very thinly. It was deep fried to perfection and was not greasy at all. And finally, the inside was just succulent and sweet. This is something you have to try for yourself.
