Rockpool is the place to take that special someone - especially if you want to impress and splurge. We were in the splurging mood and what better way to do this than with LOBSTER! I think Sis and I had lobster two years ago in an island called Boracay, in the sweat and heat of summer and it was glorious. How odd it is now that we're having lobster again in such a posh place. It was funny to see ourselves shelling this huge baby away in the midst of all the well dressed couples sitting next to us - so demure and classy - while we're stuffing our faces with lobster meat. And do we care? NO.
The waiter however, was very nice and he suggested that we simmer down with just one simple salad along with our lobster. Thank goodness! Or someone would have to cart us out after that meal. It was superb - for the price of $180 for 1.1kg of lobster.
Aside from that, we had two cold starters.
Crudo of Hiramasa Kingfish, Ocean Trout, Yellowfin Tuna and Coroong Yellow Mullet With Coriander, Horseradish and Lemon Flavoured Oil ($32) - I thought this was so fresh and zesty - I loved the lemon flavoured oil. This was like ceviche but the oil wasn't sharp enough to cook the tender succulent slices of raw dish. There was nothing fishy tasting about this dish. It was just about the freshness of the lovely meat.
Alaskan King Crab Cocktail with Celeriac, Apple, Jalapeno and Green Goddess Dressing ($35) - This was also nice and Sis liked this very much. Although she found something very salty towards the end of the salad which I think was my fault because I didn't mix it all before we started eating it. Overall, again very fresh. I could have a bucket of this!
